Chapel of St. Blas, Gothic chapel within Toledo Cathedral, Spain
The Chapel of Saint Blaise is a Gothic chapel within Toledo Cathedral located at the northeastern corner of the cloister. Its interior features a central vault divided into eight sections with ribs that rest on corbels below.
Archbishop Pedro Tenorio commissioned this chapel in 1397 as his personal burial place within the cathedral complex. Later restoration work preserved it for future generations by addressing structural damage and water damage.
The interior walls display murals showing scenes from the Apostles Creed, the life of Saint Anthony, and Saint Blaise, reflecting artistic styles from Florence. These painted scenes shape how the space looks and reveal the religious themes that mattered in the late medieval period.
The space is small and easy to move through as part of the larger cathedral, with limited room to walk around. Visitors should take their time to look up and study the vault details and wall paintings.
The Gothic entrance displays carved stone work by Ferrán González depicting the Annunciation. Two notable burial markers flank the doorway, giving the portal a personal and historical significance that catches visitors by surprise.
