SS Marquette & Bessemer No. 2, Historic shipwreck site in Lake Erie, Canada
The SS Marquette & Bessemer No. 2 measured 338 feet in length with a beam of 54 feet and transported railway cars across Lake Erie.
On December 7, 1909, the vessel departed Conneaut for Port Stanley carrying thirty loaded railway cars before disappearing in severe weather conditions.
The unexplained disappearance of this train ferry created numerous theories among maritime researchers and historians studying Great Lakes navigation history.
The vessel operated a daily five-hour route between Conneaut, Ohio, and Port Stanley, Ontario, serving as a crucial transportation link for railway cargo.
The discovery of lifeboat number 4 with nine bodies revealed unusual wounds on the captain and weapons found on a crew member.
