Bisei Observatory, Astronomical research center in Ibara, Japan
The Bisei Observatory houses a 101-centimeter telescope for observing stars, planets, and distant galaxies through clear, dark skies in Okayama Prefecture.
The facility opened on July 7, 1993, following the implementation of Japan's first Light Pollution Prevention Ordinance in Bisei Town in 1989.
The name of the region stems from two local rivers, Miyama and Hoshida, with three ancient shrines commemorating fallen meteors in the area.
Visitors can access the observatory from Friday to Wednesday between 9:30 and 22:00, with entry costing 300 yen for general admission.
The facility presents a 3D universe show called '4D2U' on the first floor during cloudy weather when astronomical observation becomes impossible.
