Neesima's Residence, Historical residence in Kamigyō-ku, Japan.
The two-story timber house combines Japanese construction methods with colonial elements, featuring balconies, louver shutters, and paper sliding doors.
Built in 1878, this residence belonged to Jo Neesima, who established Doshisha University and introduced Western educational principles to Japan.
The interior maintains traditional Japanese architectural elements, including grid box layouts and makabe-zukuri walls with protruding wooden posts.
The residence functions as a museum displaying original furnishings and household items, designated as cultural assets by Kyoto City.
The drawing room served multiple functions over time, from a classroom and staff room to a fundraising office and worship space.
