Bab El Khemis, Historic gate in northern Medina, Marrakech, Morocco.

The northern entrance features rectangular defensive towers on both sides and extends through multiple right-angle turns within its passageway.

Built in 1126 during the Almoravid period under emir Ali ibn Yusuf, the gate underwent significant modifications in 1803 under Sultan Moulay Slimane.

The name translates to Thursday Gate in Arabic, referencing the traditional weekly market that gathered merchants and buyers at this location.

The gate connects to one of Morocco's largest flea markets, where visitors find antique doors, furniture, and traditional artifacts daily from 10:00 to 19:00.

The original passage contained four 90-degree turns for defensive purposes, but modifications in the 20th century created a direct path through the gate.
