Synagoge, Jewish heritage monument in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands
The synagogue features a prayer hall on the ground floor, a gallery with balustrade, and medieval cellars containing two ritual baths.
King Willem I donated 1000 guilders in 1830 for the construction of this synagogue, which served the local Jewish community until 1940.
The building contains traditional Jewish elements including a bima platform, the Holy Ark, and two separate mikvehs for ritual purification.
The synagogue offers guided tours on shopping Sundays from October to April, with entrance fees of 2 euros for adults and free for children.
The medieval cellars house two distinct ritual baths: a marble one for men and another for women, plus water wells and heating facilities.
