The red-brown Friesian brick structure features two corner sections with gabled roofs and displays POST EN TELEGRAAFKANTOOR above its double entrance.
Architect Cornelis Peters designed this neo-gothic and neo-renaissance building, which opened in 1903 and incorporated remains of a former monastery discovered during construction.
The building transformed from a postal service center into Post-Plaza Hotel, preserving architectural elements while adapting to contemporary hospitality needs.
Located at Tweebaksmarkt 25, the former post office now functions as a hotel with 83 rooms, a grand café, and conference facilities.
During the 1945 German retreat, resistance members replaced real explosives with wooden replicas, preventing the building's intended destruction.
