Ostrvica, Volcanic mountain in Rudnik, Serbia

The 758-meter-high Ostrvica features two rounded peaks separated by a rift formed through ancient lava movements in central Serbia.

The fortress on Ostrvica, first documented in the fifth century, served as a strategic stronghold for Serbian rulers against Turkish incursions until 1438.

Medieval merchants from Dubrovnik established trading posts at the foot of Ostrvica, collecting duties on goods transported between the coast and Rudnik.

The volcanic rocks of Ostrvica, formed 20 million years ago, provide construction materials for roads and buildings throughout the region.

The rock formation contains two distinct summits with a four-meter height difference, displaying remnants of fortified structures on both peaks.
