Peter the Great initiated construction of this waterfront area in 1720 as part of his grand vision to modernize Vyborg after its capture from Sweden.
The riverfront promenade includes preserved military architectural elements and remains an integral part of the Annenkrone fortification complex.
Visitors can access the riverfront via Hiekkaportinkatu street, which leads directly to the water and offers connections to major transportation routes.
The granite blocks used in the embankment construction were extracted from local quarries and shaped by Finnish stonemasons in the 18th century.
