St George’s Interdenominational Chapel, Heathrow Airport, Interdenominational chapel at Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom.
The underground chapel features three distinct areas with a vaulted crypt design that provides insulation from the surrounding airport noise.
Frederick Gibberd designed this chapel, which opened on October 11, 1968, as an Ecumenical Christian place of worship at Heathrow Airport.
The chapel maintains a multi-faith approach with chaplains from Anglican, Catholic, Free Church, Muslim, and Jewish traditions serving the airport community.
Located near Terminal 5, the Memorial Garden remains open for reflection while the chapel requires advance arrangements for visits.
A 16-foot oak cross stands in the Memorial Garden, which contains plaques commemorating deceased members of the airport community.
