Wimpole's Folly, Gothic folly in Wimpole, England
The Gothic tower extends two hundred feet across the Wimpole Estate grounds and includes a four-storey structure with medieval architectural elements.
Sanderson Miller designed the folly in 1749 for Lord Hardwicke, while Capability Brown supervised its construction between 1768 and 1772.
The structure represents the 18th-century trend of constructing decorative ruins within English estates to enhance the landscape's visual appeal.
The National Trust manages the folly as part of Wimpole Estate, allowing visitors to explore the grounds and view the restored Gothic tower.
The conservation project received the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage and Europa Nostra Awards in 2016 for its restoration excellence.
