Whitefield's Tabernacle, Kingswood, Grade I listed church building in Kingswood, England
The Whitefield's Tabernacle comprises multiple structures, including the Old Tabernacle, Chapel House, and New Tabernacle, situated on the outskirts of Bristol.
The congregation began in 1741 when George Whitefield established a new meeting place following theological differences with John Wesley regarding Methodist doctrines.
The Gothic architecture of the 1851 tabernacle, designed by Henry Masters, demonstrates the transformation of religious buildings during the Victorian period.
The structure stands empty since 1983, with restoration efforts currently underway through a £682,000 grant to convert it into a community arts center.
The tabernacle originated as a preaching site for coal miners, marking the beginning of organized nonconformist worship in the Kingswood area.
