Fort Standish, Coastal military fort on Lovells Island, Massachusetts.
Fort Standish extends across Lovells Island with fortified walls, gun batteries, and underground chambers designed for harbor protection operations.
The military installation, completed in 1907, housed seven artillery batteries and remained active through both World Wars until its deactivation in 1947.
The fort bears the name of Myles Standish, reflecting the military heritage of colonial Massachusetts and its role in American coastal defense.
Visitors can reach Fort Standish via ferry service from Boston Harbor, with guided tours available during summer months from Thursday through Sunday.
The fort contained two 10-inch guns in Batteries Burbeck and Morris, specifically positioned to counter potential enemy battleship approaches to Boston Harbor.
