Grutenhäuschen Igel

The Grutenhäuschen features a two-story stone structure with columns, located on a vineyard slope along an ancient Roman road near the Moselle River.

Built in the third century CE, this funerary monument underwent substantial restoration by the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier in 1962 and received additional reconstruction in 2001.

The lower chamber of the temple contained sarcophagi arranged similarly to Roman dining couches, reflecting the burial customs of wealthy Romans in this province.

The monument remains accessible throughout the year, with tourist information available at the Deutsch-Luxemburgische Tourist office in Langsur, just 2 kilometers from the site.

The structure transformed from an ancient burial temple to a vineyard cottage before being restored to its original Roman architectural design.
