St Oswald's Church, Winwick, Gothic church building in Winwick, England
St Oswald's Church rises from elevated ground with its stone walls, pointed arches, and intricate carvings defining its English Gothic architectural style.
The church dates back to 1250, with significant modifications by architect Augustus Pugin between 1847 and 1849, including reconstruction of the chancel and sanctuary.
The church maintains its Grade I listed status, demonstrating exceptional architectural merit through its medieval stonework, oak-paneled roof, and brass dedications.
Regular Anglican services take place under the Liverpool diocese, with the recent appointment of Reverend Martin Cox as Priest-in-Charge in February 2024.
The church witnessed the wedding of Titanic Captain Edward Smith to Sarah Eleanor Pennington on January 13, 1887.
