Marnate's Bunker, Military bunker in Marnate, Italy.

The underground fortification stretches for 143 meters near the Valmorea railway line, with a height of 2.2 meters and width of 1.8 meters.

German General Hans Leyers ordered the construction of this bunker in summer 1944 to store gold-bearing mud from Macugnaga mines before transportation to Switzerland.

The exterior walls display commemorative graffiti depicting resistance fighters walking through mountains and a historic newspaper front page announcing the Italian Republic.

The municipality of Marnate manages the bunker, which opened to visitors in 2015 after restoration work and safety improvements.

The bunker contained a self-destruction explosive device, discovered by resistance fighters when they captured the structure in April 1945.
