Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone

The Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone stretches across 3,000 hectares along the Mekong River where Laos meets Thailand and Myanmar.

The Lao government established this economic zone in 2007 through a partnership with the Kings Romans Group, a Chinese-owned Hong Kong registered company.

The zone functions primarily in Chinese yuan and Thai baht, with Chinese language, products, and food establishments dominating the commercial landscape.

The area contains hotels, shops, restaurants, medical facilities, apartment buildings, and markets, connected by road to Houay Xay and serviced by local ferries.

The Kings Romans Casino serves as the central attraction, drawing visitors from mainland China where gambling remains prohibited outside of Macau.
