Construction of the convent began in 1589, and the church expansion was completed in 1706 following several earthquakes that affected the structure.
Artist Filippo Pennino created frescoes throughout the interior and cloister, depicting numerous saints and popes of the Franciscan Order.
The complex includes a private vocational institute, a small theater, two soccer fields, and serves as an infirmary for clerical staff.
The convent cellars contain remnants of the ancient Nuceria Alfaterna amphitheater, connecting the site to Roman settlement history.
