Nun's Well, Ancient water reservoir at Europa Point, Gibraltar
Nun's Well consists of two underground chambers with arched roofs supported by pillars, accessed through steps on the eastern side of the structure.
The underground reservoir dates back to the Moorish period and served as a water source for military forces in Gibraltar during the eighteenth century.
The structure received its name from its proximity to the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, though no actual connection to nuns exists.
The Royal Engineers constructed a castle-like main building in 1988, providing modern access to the historical water storage chambers underneath.
Water in the reservoir comes from multiple sources including rainfall, street drainage, and sea spray, creating a complex hydrological system.
