Las Pozas

Las Pozas extends across 37 hectares of jungle terrain, featuring 27 concrete structures including spiral staircases, arches, and botanical forms integrated with natural waterfalls.

Edward James, a British poet and art patron, established Las Pozas in 1947 as an orchid sanctuary before transforming it into a concrete sculpture garden after 1962.

The structures combine elements of Gothic architecture with surrealist interpretations of nature, reflecting the artistic movement that Edward James supported throughout his life.

The garden requires advance ticket purchases and comfortable walking shoes, as visitors traverse narrow paths between pools, streams, and architectural formations in tropical conditions.

Multiple concrete staircases across the property lead to empty spaces in mid-air, creating an intentional architectural paradox within the natural landscape.
