Talat Phlu

Talat Phlu extends along Khlong Bangkok Yai canal, featuring a network of small alleys filled with food stalls and local vendors selling fresh produce.

The market area developed during the Thonburi Kingdom period after 1767, when Chinese merchants established trading posts near the canal system.

The district preserves traditional Thai-Chinese architecture through numerous shophouses decorated with wooden fretwork and stucco ornamental details from different periods.

Visitors can reach the market via the BTS Silom Line station or the State Railway station, with multiple bus connections available throughout the day.

The market earned its name from the extensive betel plantations that once dominated the area, serving as the main wholesale distribution point for these leaves.
