Mylonas waterfall, Waterfall near Ierapetra, Crete, Greece.

Mylonas Waterfall cascades down rocky cliffs from a height of 40 meters, creating a powerful natural spectacle surrounded by pine forest vegetation and ending in a small pool at its base.

The waterfall area features remnants of old concrete water transportation systems built around 1960, which historically channeled water from the Agios Ioannis settlement to lower elevations for agricultural irrigation purposes.

Local communities have traditionally regarded Mylonas Waterfall as an important landmark that represents the natural heritage of southeastern Crete and continues to attract nature enthusiasts and photographers seeking authentic Greek landscapes.

Visitors can reach the waterfall via two main routes: a short 20-minute walk following old water pipes, or a more challenging two-hour trek starting from Agios Ioannis village that requires crossing streams and climbing rocks.

During winter months and after heavy rainfall, the waterfall doubles in height and forms a temporary lake at its base, offering visitors the opportunity to experience this natural phenomenon in its most dramatic state.
