The palace was constructed between 1736 and 1768 as the summer residence of Duke Ernst Johan Biron of Courland, representing the architectural ambitions and power of Baltic aristocracy during that period.
Exhibitions include European and Latvian decorative arts collections from the 15th to 20th centuries, portraits of Courland society, and artifacts illustrating aristocratic lifestyle and religious art traditions.
The museum operates daily from 10:00 to 18:00, adult tickets cost 12 euros, and reduced rates are available for students, families, and various special groups including seniors.
The ten-hectare baroque French garden received the European Garden Award in 2021 and hosts music festivals, classical concerts, and seasonal celebrations throughout the year.
