Guayacán, Historical district in Coquimbo, Chile

The neighborhood extends from Guacolda Street to the Pacific Ocean, featuring continuous facade buildings with central access and side windows.

Founded in 1846 as a maritime-mining settlement, Guayacán developed into the world's largest copper refinery with 35 reverberatory furnaces by 1876.

The Guayacán Church, constructed with galvanized iron and designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, stands as a testament to European industrial architecture.

The historical district includes the main plaza and surrounding streets, bounded by Wenceslao Vargas, Darío Salas, and the Pan-American Highway La Serena-Coquimbo.

The English Cemetery, established in 1874, contains the graves of the first Scottish and Welsh families who settled in Coquimbo.
