Located at Praça do Menino Deus, the theatre underwent extensive renovation in 2004, reopening with updated facilities while preserving its historical elements.
Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil attended the 2004 reopening ceremony, which featured Samuel Beckett's play 'Waiting for Godot' performed by local artists.
