Bulukumba, Administrative district in South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Bulukumba is a regency spanning southeastern Sulawesi with ten administrative districts and Ujung Bulu serving as the main administrative seat. The area includes coastal zones, fishing settlements, and inland villages distributed across its territory.

The area developed as a center for boat building, with local craftspeople constructing traditional wooden vessels, especially Pinisi sailing ships. These skills emerged from generations of maritime experience passed through families.

The Bugis people living here maintain strong connections to their maritime heritage, which shapes how communities work and interact daily. You can see these traditions in the fishing villages and boat-building yards along the coast.

The area is accessible year-round, though temperatures typically range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius (86-90 degrees Fahrenheit), so light clothing and sun protection are important. Multiple coastal access points are available throughout the territory.

The village of Lemo-lemo preserves the craft of Pinisi ship building through techniques passed from fathers to sons and still practiced today. Visitors can watch craftspeople at work and observe how these vessels take shape from raw timber.
