Noakhali District, Administrative district in Chattogram Division, Bangladesh
Noakhali District spans 3,685 square kilometers between the Meghna estuary and Bay of Bengal, featuring coastal plains and river channels.
Initially named Bhulua, the district received its current designation in 1868 and was a central location during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
The district maintains Bengali traditions through its folk tales, local proverbs, and performing arts like Palagan and Kabigan in the Noakhailla dialect.
Nine administrative subdivisions and eight municipalities serve the population of 3.1 million residents, with 277 secondary schools and 34 colleges.
Annual sediment deposits from the Meghna River enrich agricultural lands, supporting rice cultivation and fishing activities for local communities.
