Keraniganj Upazila

Keraniganj Upazila extends over 166 square kilometers along the Buriganga River, forming the southwestern border of Dhaka metropolitan area with a population exceeding one million residents.

The region received its name from clerical staff and local soldiers stationed during the reign of Nawab Shaista Khan, marking its administrative importance in the Mughal period.

The Doleshwar Hanafia Jame Mosque earned UNESCO recognition in 2021, representing the architectural and religious heritage of this predominantly Muslim district.

Two modern bridges connect the district to central Dhaka across the Buriganga River, facilitating daily transportation for thousands of residents and workers.

The district maintains 177,970 households with a literacy rate of 58.5 percent, demonstrating higher educational achievements compared to national statistics.
