Patleyna monastery, Orthodox monastery ruins in Shumen Province, Bulgaria
The stone remains of Patleyna Monastery rest on a narrow terrace at the base of a mountain slope, featuring three separate courtyards and workshop buildings.
The monastery, established in the 9th century during Boris I's reign, functioned as a center for the Preslav Literary School until its destruction by Byzantine forces in 971.
Archaeological excavations between 1909 and 1914 revealed a mosaic ceramic icon of Saint Theodore Stratelates from the 10th century, now displayed at the National Archaeological Museum.
The monastery site includes remnants of a cross-shaped church measuring 12.60 meters in length, with reinforced side walls and two lateral apses next to the altar.
Two specialized workshops at the monastery produced painted ceramics using high-quality white Preslav clay, complete with ovens and clay purification facilities.
