Château-d’Oex

Located at an elevation of 958 meters in the Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut District, Château-d'Oex extends across 113 square kilometers of alpine terrain.

The settlement, first mentioned in 1115 under various names including Oit and Oyz, developed under the control of the Count of Gruyere during the 10th century.

The municipality maintains strong agricultural traditions with cheese production, while also hosting multiple festivals throughout the year in the local community.

The area provides winter sports facilities, hiking trails, and balloon flight opportunities, with convenient access through public transportation and parking facilities.

Since 1979, the International Hot-Air Balloon Festival transforms Château-d'Oex into a global gathering point for balloonists and spectators each winter.
