Crüwell-Haus, Architectural heritage monument in Old Market, Bielefeld, Germany
The Crüwell-Haus features a four-part stepped gable made of sandstone, rising five stories high above its two-story main structure in central Bielefeld.
Built in 1530, the building housed a tobacco factory from 1705 until 1983, where Johan Crevin's coat of arms remains visible on the original gable.
The staircase area contains 7,000 Delft tiles dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, forming North-Western Germany's largest collection of these decorative elements.
Located at the intersection of Obernstraße and Old Market Square, the building stands as a central reference point for exploring Bielefeld's historical district.
The structure survived World War II with its original stepped gable intact, leading to a complete reconstruction in 1948 under architect Paul Griesser's direction.
