St. Georg, Gothic chapel in Heidesheim am Rhein, Germany
The chapel stands between a railway line and the highway from Rüsselsheim to Bingen, surrounded by fruit orchards north of Heidesheim.
Built on the remains of a Roman villa rustica, the chapel dates back approximately 1,500 years and retains two original walls with period joint painting.
The building transitioned from a parish church to a pilgrimage site throughout the Middle Ages, drawing faithful visitors from surrounding regions.
The chapel belongs to the St. Maria Magdalena Ingelheim parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mainz and currently holds regular religious services.
The structure incorporates walls from a Roman villa with original exterior joint painting and interior plaster, making it the oldest preserved religious building in Rheinhessen.
