The first documented mention of Visbek Abbey dates to September 1, 819, when Emperor Louis the Pious granted tax immunity to Abbot Gerbert Castus.
Six life-sized late Baroque wooden sculptures by Johann Heinrich König, depicting church fathers and religious figures, decorate the interior walls.
The church interior spans 30.50 by 22 meters and provides seating for 800 people, with live-streamed services available for remote participation.
The current structure represents the seventh church built on this location, requiring major foundation reinforcements in 1892 due to structural concerns.
