Mariä Himmelfahrt

Mariä Himmelfahrt is a parish church standing in central Aichach with a tall tower and Gothic architectural features. The building blends together different styles from medieval times through the Baroque period within its walls.

The church was first documented in 1153 and underwent major transformations from its Romanesque origins through Gothic changes around 1450 to Baroque restructuring in 1771. These construction phases shaped the building we see today and show the craftsmanship of different eras.

The interior features a Baroque high altar crafted by Johann Anton Wiest, reflecting artistic traditions shared with other regional churches of the same period. This design approach shows how local artists connected their work to broader stylistic movements of their time.

The interior contains a 1989 organ that accompanies regular worship services throughout the year. Visitors should check for open visiting hours or plan to attend a service to experience the full interior.

The church houses Art Nouveau Stations of the Cross designed by Georg Busch that underwent major restoration work in 2017. This artistic series represents a less visible layer of the building's heritage that visitors often overlook when first entering.
