Hohes Moor, Nature reserve in Estorf, Oldendorf, Heinbockel, and Bremervörde, Germany.
The protected area spans 862 hectares of diverse wetland landscapes, including open water surfaces, wet meadows, peat moss lawns, and moor forests.
From 1830 to 1960, peat extraction activities shaped the landscape until restoration efforts began, leading to the official protected status in 1985.
Traditional hand-cut peat extraction methods created specific patterns in the landscape, visible through drainage ditches and shallow moor lakes named Elmer and Oldendorfer See.
Two circular hiking trails extend through the reserve, measuring 2.5 and 7 kilometers, with detailed maps available at Oldendorf town hall.
The restored marshland houses over 60 bird species and specific dragonfly varieties, including the Arctic Emerald and Crescent Bluet.
