St. Anna

St. Anna is a brick building in late Gothic style, distinguished by its single nave and elaborate vaulting in the eastern sections. The structure stands on the site of a former monastery and displays the red brick construction typical of the region.

The building was constructed in 1460 as part of a Franciscan monastery and originally served a religious community. After dissolution during the Reformation, it came under Protestant administration before later returning to Catholic use.

St. Anna takes its name from Mary's mother and reflects the Catholic tradition that developed later in Stendal. The church became a center for workers and their families who came to the region from areas like Eichsfeld and Poland.

The church is centrally located in Stendal and easily accessible on foot from the city center. As an active parish church, visitors should check beforehand about services or special events that may affect access.

A fire in 1973 caused significant damage, destroying both the roof and the organ inside. The restoration that followed brought the building back to active religious use.
