St. Matthaei, Gothic church in Schnellroda, Germany
The church features a single-nave hall structure with a polygonal east choir and a massive cross tower containing Romanesque sound arcades.
Initially constructed around 1250 as a Romanesque church, the building underwent reconstruction in 1506 with the addition of a Gothic choir section.
The interior contains an octagonal sandstone baptismal font from 1609 and an altar with a rounded pulpit basket decorated with inscribed ornamental plates.
The church building received extensive renovations in 2022, including roof repairs and tower maintenance funded with 10,000 euros of support.
The mechanical organ, built in 1780 by Christian August Gerhard, maintains eight pipes on a manual and pedal clavier in functioning condition.
