Fontaine d'Amboise, Renaissance fountain in Place de la Poterne, Clermont-Ferrand, France

The Fontaine d'Amboise features three tiered basins with sculpted figures, masks, garlands, and water spouts made from dark Volvic stone.

Bishop Jacques d'Amboise commissioned the fountain's construction between 1511 and 1515, initially placing it near the cathedral before relocations in 1808 and 1962.

The fountain combines Gothic architectural elements with Renaissance decorative styles, displaying masks, seasonal figures, and an untamed man holding the Amboise family crest.

The fountain underwent complete restoration in 2019, preserving its historical features and water system that originated from springs in nearby Royat.

Eight decorative panels adorn the octagonal middle basin, where water flows through four carved masks alongside candelabra at each corner.
