Pont de l'Europe, Steel arch bridge in Orléans, France

The asymmetrical bridge stretches 470 meters across the Loire River, featuring an inclined arch and 28 pairs of suspension cables on its edge.

The bridge opened on November 20, 2000, with Prime Minister Lionel Jospin attending the ceremony to mark this addition to Orléans infrastructure.

Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava designed this contemporary structure, incorporating his signature style of combining engineering precision with architectural expression.

The bridge connects Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle to Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin with four traffic lanes and pedestrian paths spanning 25 meters in width.

The main span measures 201.6 meters between supports, utilizing existing islands to minimize the number of pillars in the Loire River.
