Rákóczi No. 1. Cave, Cave formation in Tornaszentandrás, Hungary
The Rákóczi No. 1 Cave extends through vertical and horizontal passages within Esztramos Hill, featuring numerous cave coral formations along its limestone walls.
Mining operations in 1830 focused on iron extraction, leading to the discovery of this geological formation in 1952 during industrial excavation activities.
The cave system represents an important part of Hungary's geological heritage, receiving UNESCO World Heritage status recognition in 1995 alongside regional cave networks.
Access to the cave requires navigation through narrow corridors and steep sections, making proper footwear and physical preparation essential for exploration.
The cave walls display an unusual concentration of speleothems called cave corals, formed by mineral-rich thermal waters circulating through the limestone structure.
