Monte Altissimo, Mountain summit in Seravezza, Italy.

Monte Altissimo rises to 1589 meters in the Alpi Apuane range, featuring a three-pointed pyramid shape with a vertical southwest face dropping 700 meters.

The mountain gained prominence during the Renaissance when Michelangelo selected its marble deposits for his sculptures, establishing the first organized quarrying operations.

Three abandoned marble quarries remain visible on the eastern face, serving as a testament to centuries of stone extraction that shaped the local industry.

The mountain offers two primary hiking routes: the gentler south ridge path following historic fortification trails and the more demanding west ridge traverse.

From the peak, visitors can see across the Alpi Apuane mountains, stretching toward distant locations including Elba Island and Corsica on clear days.
