Temple of Demeter, Ancient Greek temple at Valle dei Templi, Italy
The Temple of Demeter exhibits a distylous architecture with a central cella preceded by a pronaos supported by two front columns.
Built between 480 and 470 BC, the temple structure measured 30 by 13 meters and included outer cella walls still visible today.
Archaeological excavations revealed kernoi vessels and busts related to the cult of Demeter and Persephone within the temple grounds.
The temple remains integrate with the medieval church of St Biagio, while original water spouts are displayed at the Regional Archaeological Museum.
The temple complex contained two round altars and a central bothros used for religious ceremonies during the classical period.
