Capitolium, Roman temple ruins in Piazza delle Erbe, Italy
The Capitolium structure contains three rows of six columns each, with foundations extending nine meters below the current street level of Verona.
Built in the first century BC when Verona became a Roman municipium, the temple complex included a double portico constructed by Marcus Magius.
The temple featured three separate chambers dedicated to the Roman deities Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, following the standard religious architecture of ancient Rome.
Visitors can explore the temple remains and cryptoporticus in the basements of Palazzo Maffei and under the loggia of Corte Sgarzerie.
Archaeological excavations revealed bronze fragments of Roman cadastral tables, providing detailed information about ancient property ownership and coordinates in Verona.
