Kameyama, Historic castle city in Mie Prefecture, Japan
Kameyama spans across 190 square kilometers of terrain in northern Mie Prefecture, with forests covering more than half of its landscape between Suzuka and Nunobiki Mountains.
The city grew around Kameyama Castle, established in 1264 by Seki Sanetada, later becoming the headquarters of Ise-Kameyama Domain under Tokugawa shogunate control.
The traditional candle production continues in Kameyama, representing a craft passed through generations while maintaining its historical manufacturing techniques.
The Kamo-Kameyama railway section operates diesel trains hourly, taking 90 minutes to cover 60 kilometers of track between Kyoto Prefecture and Nagoya.
The Tamon-yagura watchtower and entrance to Ni-no-maru residence remain as the only surviving structures of the original Kameyama Castle complex.
