Saku, Agricultural city in Nagano Prefecture, Japan

Saku occupies a substantial area of 423 square kilometers within the Saku Basin, along the upper reaches of the Shinano River in Nagano Prefecture.

The region gained prominence during the Sengoku period when the Ochiai clan established their presence and maintained loyalty to the Uesugi clan.

Local residents participate in the annual Saku Balloon Festival and maintain traditional carp farming practices throughout the mountainous agricultural landscape.

The Nagano Shinkansen connects through Sakudaira Station, allowing residents to reach Tokyo within one hour for work or leisure activities.

Saku holds a geographical distinction as the location of the point most distant from any sea within the island of Honshu.
