Kashihara, Historical capital in Nara Prefecture, Japan

Kashihara extends across the western section of Nara Prefecture, positioned 16 kilometers south of Nara city in the southern corner of the Nara Basin.

The city housed the imperial capital Fujiwara-kyo from 694 to 710, marking a significant period in Japanese administrative history before the capital moved to Nara.

The Kashihara Shrine stands at the reported location where Emperor Jimmu, recognized as Japan's first emperor, ascended to the imperial throne in ancient times.

Visitors can access multiple archaeological sites and historical locations through the Kintetsu Railway network, which connects the city to Osaka and Kyoto.

The Three Mountains of Yamato - Mount Unebi, Mount Miminashi, and Mount Amanokagu - form natural boundaries around the city and appear in ancient Japanese poetry.
