Omura, Port city in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan

Located on the eastern shore of Omura Bay, the city extends across 126 square kilometers of land between mountains and coastal areas.

The area developed as a castle town during the Edo Period under the control of the Omura clan, who ruled the domain for over 900 years.

The city maintains strong connections to early Japanese-European relations, as it was among the first regions to engage in trade with European merchants in 1543.

Nagasaki Airport, constructed on a man-made island in Omura Bay, serves as the primary aviation gateway to the Nagasaki Prefecture region.

The local Omura cherry trees produce flowers with 60 to 200 petals each, setting them apart from standard cherry blossoms found elsewhere in Japan.
