Taketa

The city spreads across 477 square kilometers of land surrounded by the Kuju Mountain Range, Mount Aso, Mount Sobo, and Mount Takayama.

The area developed as a castle town of Oka Domain during the Edo period, with the Nakagawa clan ruling until the Meiji Restoration.

The city maintains traditional craftsmanship through Princess Daruma dolls production, which originated in this region and remains significant in local arts.

Visitors reach the city via JR Kyushu Hohi Main Line at Bungo-Taketa Station, with connections through National Routes 57, 442, and 502.

Pure spring waters from the Aso mountain range supply local industries, including tofu production and trout farming throughout the region.
