Shibukawa, Hot spring city in Gunma Prefecture, Japan
Shibukawa sits at the meeting point of the Tone River and Agatsuma River, covering 240 square kilometers in the central region of Gunma Prefecture.
The city developed as a major post station along the Mikuni Kaido highway during the Edo period, connecting the cities of Takasaki and Niigata.
The Bellybutton Festival occurs each July, featuring performers who paint faces on their stomachs and participate in traditional dance performances.
Shibukawa maintains fourteen elementary schools, nine middle schools, and four high schools, serving its population of over 76,000 residents.
The temperature of Shibukawa ranges from sea level at 139 meters to mountain peaks at 1,565 meters, creating diverse climate zones across the region.
