Taku, Historical city in Saga Prefecture, Japan
Taku occupies a basin along the Ushizu River, surrounded by mountains, covering 125 square kilometers in the Saga Prefecture of Kyushu island.
The city of Taku emerged in 1954 through the merger of five distinct municipalities: Kita-Taku, Taku, Nishi-Taku, Higashi-Taku, and Minami-Taku.
The Taku Seibyo Confucian Temple, established in 1708, conducts the Sekisai ritual twice yearly, maintaining traditions with offerings and gagaku music performances.
The city maintains three combined elementary and junior high schools, one public high school, and connects to major urban centers via the Nagasaki Expressway.
Taku operated numerous coal mines until 1972, marking the end of its mining era, and now focuses on industrial development near the Nagasaki Expressway.
